Ability to view old page versions

It would be cool to be able to view (i.e. render) old versions of a page in the same way as the recent one (without reverting to them or downloading the HTML as the latter looses formatting). This would be interesting in particular since major players in the wiki market (MediaWiki, Confluence) allow to do so.

Only source of histories can be compared (diff style).
To actually see what the page looked like (including diagrams), one has to restore the page's old version.
It would be nice to see a preview of an old version without having to actually restore it.
