Save draw.io file to local filesystem

I would like to be able to export or save as the draw.io file as a draw.io file without having to export it as a .png or .svg with the draw.io file embedded.

You already can... In the draw.io editor, File > Export As... > XML.

Nicolas Giard: Thanks for the explanation. You are correct. I would prefer the extension to be .drawio instead of .xml so that google drive, etc recognized by default that it can be opened straight in .drawio, but I can do this manually and this is sufficient.
